History and Track Record

Randy Timms is currently in his tenth season of racing.

Randy was chosen at the age of 15 1/2 to represent Moore High School in the state Drivers Education competition. By age 16 he had won the state competition and tied for the national championship.

Randy bought his first race car, a factory stock, in 1997 and began his racing career at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City.

In 1997 Randy only raced 5 race nights so he could maintain his rookie status for the 1998 season. Between the 97 and 98 seasons Rodney and Randy had a new car built. 1998 saw Randy down 175 points in the Rookie of the Year race midway through the season. Not only did Randy overcome the 175 point deficit and win the Rookie of the Year title, he finished third in the points race.

In 1999 Randy's first "A" feature found him finishing 13th with a flat. During the heat race of the second night of racing Randy was hit in the left rear which broke an axle and spun him around causing him to be hit again in the front door post causing serious damage. Eight people spent the next hour and a half putting the car back together. Randy went on that night to win his first "A" feature of the season. Randy took the points lead the third night of racing and never relinquished it. His margin of victory was 465 points. The highlight of the season was sweeping the last night of racing after having rolled the car in Ardmore Oklahoma two weeks earlier.

The 1999 Factory Stock Champion was encouraged to move up to the half-mile into the Pro Stock division. Randy started the 2000 Pro Stock season as a rookie not ever having raced on a half-mile track before. At the end of this trying season Randy was the thirteenth different driver to win an "A" feature. Randy finished a respectable eighth place in points and 2000 Rookie of the Year.

The 2001 season opened with Randy sweeping the first night of racing. Randy had a third place point finish in the 2001 season.

The 2002 season saw Randy driving both a Pro Stock and a USA Modified. Randy made a hard charge in both classes on many nights. As far as recent history tells Randy is the only driver at State Fair Speedway to have a double sweep on the same night! Randy did a great job in both classes finishing second in points in the Pro Stock and Modified.

In 2003 Randy drove both a Late Model and Modified. Randy focused mostly on his Late Model. After his first hot lap session in his Late Model Randy said that ride was "unbelievable"! Randy had a great run with his new Late Model, driving at Outlaw Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Randy also drove in several other Late Model races including a MARS Series race at the Tulsa track where he finished 5th racing against some of the best, including Raymond Merrill, Bill Frye, Terry Phillips and Jeff Taylor.

Randy made major strides in 2004 with his modified. Randy won on both the 3/8 mile track and the 1/2 mile track at State Fair Speedway. He also won the Clinton Motorsports Park Winter Nationals and finished third at the Miller Modified Nationals in McAllen, Texas. Randy also claims a Kid Sprint Championship in 2004 as the crew chief of the 5 car driven by his son, Austin.
